Project overview
To be located within the deconsecrated Church of St Beuno Sant in Llanycil on the shores of lake Bala the Faith Heritage Centre will focus on the history and cultural significance of the area in the founding of The Bible Society.
Sensitive restoration of the existing fabric of the former church using traditional building techniques will maintain the historical character of the building while providing a viable alternative use securing the longevity of the historical asset.
Internal alterations will include the removal of the pews and the introduction of a ramp between the nave and the chancel to provide access for all. The introduction of an accessible w.c, a tea making kitchen, storage and a reception to the rear of the church will provide the necessary facilities for the completed visitor centre without adversely affecting the internal character of the church.
External alterations will include the construction of a new car park and vehicular access from the main carriageway and extending the churchyard.
Development of the scheme has involved extensive discussions with Snowdonia National Park’s Planning, Conservation and Ecology departments as well as Cadw and the local community.
Work is anticipated to start on site Aug.13 for completion in Mar.14.
